Mechanical drawing

Course Description: Introduction to 3D Modeling. Use of SolidWorks software to create 3D models of mechanical parts, including creating 2D sketches, using reference entities, and applying sketch-based and applied properties to create 3D models. The course also covers creating mechanical assemblies using mates to join, assemble, and disassemble mechanical parts. It also includes adding standard mechanical parts to assemblies, such as fasteners, bearings, and springs. The course addresses the preparation of detailed engineering drawings, including orthographic views, auxiliary views, sections, enlarged details, and the addition of geometric dimensions. Finally, the course provides an introduction to rapid prototyping and model manufacturing using 3D printing technology. .
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: GE 104
Objectives of the course :

1. Provide students with the fundamental principles necessary for visualizing and creating 3D objects using the latest parametric solid modeling software, such as SolidWorks.
2. Introducing students to the foundational principles and basic concepts of mechanical part assembly. .
3. Empower students to prepare detailed drawings of 3D mechanical parts and assemblies.
4. Introduce students to the different types of projections used in detailed drawings, including orthogonal projections, auxiliary projections, sections, and enlarged details.
5. Train students on using automated drawing tools in SolidWorks to prepare mechanical drawings with the necessary geometric dimensions, enabling the operation or manufacturing technician to produce parts accurately.
6. Introduce students to the basic concepts and foundations of 3D printing technology. .
7. Enable students to design and build prototypes using 3D printing technologies.
