Fundamentals of Medical Microbiology

Course Description: The course covers the basic principles of medical microbiology, including the structure and growth of microorganisms, their classification, metabolism, virulence factors, and control methods. It also covers the fundamentals of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites of medical importance and their laboratory diagnosis.
Credit hours: 4
Prerequisites: BHS111
Objectives of the course :

1. Introduce students to the principles of medical microbiology and pathogenic microorganisms.
2. Developing skills for identifying and laboratory diagnosis of microorganisms.
3. Equipping students with sterilization and disinfection skills, as well as agricultural and microbial staining techniques.

Course outputs :

• Differentiate between types of microorganisms and their pathogenic properties
Applies sterilization, staining, isolation, and microbial identification techniques
Adheres to biosafety procedures within the laboratory.
