Scientific research methods and techniques

Course Description: This course covers the philosophical foundations of research, various research methodologies (quantitative and qualitative), designs, and the research process in the field of physical therapy. It aims to develop students' ability to prepare a detailed research proposal that considers the ethical, social, political, and economic aspects of research. Students will also develop their critical appraisal skills, learn about different data analysis approaches, and presentation skills, whether in poster or oral formats. Students will learn how to write a research project, starting from problem identification and its methodological solution using appropriate research methods. Citation and literature search techniques for relevant topics will be discussed. Furthermore, students will be introduced to various data collection and analysis techniques.
Credit hours: 3
Objectives of the course :

1. Identifying the philosophical foundations of scientific research and the foundations of scientific inquiry in the context of its benefit to society as a whole and to local populations in particular.
2. Selection of different methodological approaches, designs, and methods used in health sciences in general and physiotherapy in particular.
3. Present the scientific research in the form of a poster and an oral presentation.
