Emergency and First Aid

Course description: This course covers the principles of first aid procedures and how to apply them in realistic scenarios. Students will learn their legal responsibilities as first aiders, how to identify different types of medical emergencies and the correct steps to take, and how to act in specific environmental conditions such as extreme heat and cold. These procedures will be applied in accordance with the principles of evidence-based practice.

Objectives of the course :

1. Recognize the importance of first aid training and define its objectives.
2. Understanding legal considerations when providing first aid procedures.
3. Define the role of the paramedic in the emergency medical services chain.
4. Understanding the diagnostic criteria for life-threatening conditions and rapid rescue methods.
5. Providing accurate first aid for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), tailored to different age groups of casualties, and the correct use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in emergency situations.
6. Explanation of all first aid techniques that provide assistance until medical help arrives, and clarification of the standards of care and laws related to providing first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Course outputs :

– Describe basic first aid procedures for adult, child, and infant life support, with an emphasis on recognizing legal aspects.
– Learning first aid procedures for choking, bleeding, shock, burns, bites, diabetic emergencies, musculoskeletal injuries, and heat and cold injuries, with a focus on understanding the legal aspects.
