Islamic monuments and architecture

Course Description: The course introduces archaeology in general, including archaeological methods, schools, excavation techniques, analysis and study of archaeological finds, and methods of presentation and utilization. It also covers types of architecture, including civil, religious, and defensive architectures, their characteristics, and functions, with a focus on the architecture of mosques and masjids, madrasas, hospitals, and markets. The course also addresses suitable building materials for each type of architecture, such as stones, marble, clay, gypsum, wood, and the like. Furthermore, the course discusses the impact of Islamic civilization on architecture and arts, and how other civilizations adopted and were influenced by new innovations in arches and their capitals, domes, and calligraphic, vegetal, and geometric ornamentation.

Knowledge of archaeology and the characteristics of mosque, market, and hospital architecture, as well as building materials used or invented by Muslims. It discusses the impact of Islam on architecture and arts, as well as the purpose of antiquities and how to utilize them in the field of history, while acquiring skills in analysis, inference, correlation, arrangement, and comparison.
