Mamluk state

Course Description: This course focuses on the history of the Mamluk Sultanate, which inherited the Ayyubid state. It covers the origin of the Mamluk rulers, their religious school of thought, and their role in serving Muslims in Egypt, the Levant, and the Hejaz. It highlights their crucial victory against the fierce Mongol invasion that swept through Iraq, specifically the Mamluk triumph at the Battle of Ain Jalut. The course also examines the Mamluks' efforts to liberate the coasts of the Levant from the remnants of the Crusaders, their attempts to confront the Portuguese threat, and a discussion of the factors that led to the Mamluks' decline and the Ottoman conquest of their territories.

Objectives of the course :

To know the origin of the Mamluks, how the Mamluk state was founded, and the role of the Mamluks in confronting the Mongol threat at the Battle of Ain Jalut, and to study their jihad against the Crusaders, which ended with the cleansing of the coasts of the Levant from Crusader remnants, and to discuss the factors of weakness of the Mamluk state, with the ability to analyze, conclude, organize, and link causes to results.
