Legal and Ethical Aspects of Health Informatics

Course Description: This course addresses the governance, ethics, and regulatory frameworks governing the use of digital health technologies and health information management, with a focus on protecting patient records and the privacy and security of health data. It reviews the principles of confidentiality and privacy, the personal data protection system, the regulations of the Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority and the National Data Management Office, and health data governance standards in the Saudi health sector.

Objectives of the course :

1. Introduce students to the governance frameworks and ethical principles governing digital health technologies and health information management.
2. Clarifying the principles of health data privacy, confidentiality, security, and protection of patient files according to national regulations and standards.
3. Equipping the student with the ability to apply controls for consent management, data exchange, and cybersecurity in a digital health systems environment.
4. Promoting ethical and responsible use of information systems and artificial intelligence in healthcare, risk management, and compliance.
