Geological maps

Course Description: The student will learn the fundamentals of geological mapping and geological time scales in geological maps. The student will also learn how to analyze a geological map, types of stratigraphic structures (horizontal, dipping, and faulted layers) and how to represent them correctly and clearly on a geological map. In addition, the student will be able to identify the types of Earth's crustal rocks and their chronological sequence.

Prerequisites: GEO 213
Objectives of the course :

The student learned the methods of geological map drawing, identifying the geological layer types on it, and drawing a geological cross-section and column for it.

1.2 The student describes rock formations from the map key. He mentions the chronological sequence of layers from the map key.
1.3 The student identifies the structural type of layers using stratigraphy lines.

2.1 The student explains the causes of fault and fold formation in rock layers.
2.2 The student identifies types of folds and faults on the map and measures the thickness of geological layers and calculates their dip angle.
2.3 The student designs geological cross-sections of horizontal, inclined, folded, and faulted structures.
