Course Description: This course examines the structure and operations of commercial and investment banking within the broader financial services sector. Students will explore the impact of government policies and legislation on bank operations, the regulation of financial institutions, and the establishment of banking operations and delivery channels. The course covers bank financial statements and methods of measuring and evaluating their performance. Students will also study asset and liability management, including interest rate measurement and duration control, along with the investment function and management of capital and non-deposit liabilities. The course addresses lending policies and procedures in the areas of business, personal, and mortgage loans, as well as investment banking, insurance, and other fee-based income sources. The course concludes by exploring international banking and the future of financial services.

Objectives of the course :

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Understanding the impact of government policies and legislation on banking operations, financial institution regulation, and the establishment of banking operations and service delivery channels.
Study of banks' financial statements and methods of measuring and evaluating their performance, in addition to asset and liability management, including interest rate measurement.
Applying lending policies and procedures in the areas of business loans, personal loans, and mortgage loans, and understanding investment banking services, insurance, and other fee-based income sources.
