Course Description: This course examines the financial opportunities and decisions faced by entrepreneurs and private equity investors throughout the venture lifecycle. Students will explore the foundations of entrepreneurial finance, including business idea development, the organization and financing of a new venture. The course covers the preparation and use of financial statements, the assessment of operating and financial performance, and cash flow management. Students will also study the types and costs of capital, the preparation of projections for financial statements, and the valuation of early-stage ventures using venture capital valuation methods. The course addresses venture capital, alternative financing, securities structures, and firm valuation. The course concludes with the topics of harvesting returns from commercial ventures, managing financially distressed ventures, and recovery opportunities.

Objectives of the course :

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Understand the foundations of entrepreneurial finance, including business idea development, organizing and financing a new venture, and preparing and using financial statements.
Study the evaluation of operational and financial performance, cash flow management, and types and costs of capital.
 Application of financial statement projections, early-stage project evaluation, and venture capital valuation methods.
Analysis of venture capital and other financing alternatives, securities structures and firm valuations, realizing returns on investment in commercial ventures, and managing financially distressed projects.
