Course Description: Financial Management is a foundational course that introduces students to the essential principles and tools of corporate finance. The course provides a solid grounding in corporate finance fundamentals and financial statement analysis before progressing to the time value of money and discounted cash flow valuation techniques. Students will explore interest rate dynamics and bond valuation, as well as methods for valuing stocks, equipping them with crucial skills for securities appraisal. The course also covers investment decision-making through net present value and other criteria, drawing key lessons from the history of capital markets. Students will further examine the relationship between risk and return and the security market line, culminating in a comprehensive understanding of the cost of capital and its role in corporate financial decisions.

Objectives of the course :

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Explain the objective that governs a company's financial decisions and the role of corporate finance.
Analyze financial statements to assess the company's financial performance and cash flows.
Perform time value calculations using financial mathematics and discounted cash flow valuation techniques.
Apply various valuation models to assess bonds and stocks.
Explain the importance and role of capital budgeting using net present value and other evaluation criteria.
Analyze the key lessons learned from capital market history and their implications for risk and return.
Measure risk and return and differentiate between diversifiable and non-diversifiable risk using the Security Market Line.
Identify the company's cost of equity and cost of debt, and estimate the overall cost of capital.
