Course Description: This course introduces the fundamental concepts of derivatives, their types, and risks, focusing on aspects related to the use of options, futures, forward contracts, and swaps as innovative solutions for financing, investment, and hedging against price volatility risks. This includes risks associated with financial assets like stocks and bonds, as well as physical assets like gold, oil, and other commodities, in addition to hedging against fluctuations in exchange rates, interest rates, and price indices.

Objectives of the course :

After completing this course, the student will be able to:
1. Define the core terminology and foundations of financial derivatives, clarify the purpose of using their various contract types, and effectively apply appropriate strategies for each type (Options, Forwards, Futures, and Swaps) in diverse investment environments.
2. Expresses his/her ideas and point of view verbally regarding financial derivatives issues presented within the course vocabulary.
3. Analyzes problems related to financial derivatives and possible methods for addressing them.

Course learning outcomes:
1. Knowledge and Understanding (First Objective): Students will acquire the ability to identify the terminology and fundamentals of financial derivatives (options, futures, forwards, and swaps) and effectively apply their strategies in diverse investment environments. This learning outcome is assessed through midterm and final exams, which account for 70% of the total grade.
2. Oral Communication (Objective 2): Students will develop the ability to present their ideas and analyze and discuss financial issues in a logical and organized manner. This learning outcome is assessed through an oral presentation, which accounts for 15% of the total grade.
3. Critical Thinking (Objective 3): Students will be able to analyze problems related to financial derivatives and propose scientific and practical solutions to address them. This learning outcome is assessed through a case study, which accounts for 15% of the total grade.
