Course Description: The Arabic Calligraphy course, FAD216, which is worth 2 credit hours, covers the innovative skills of Arabic calligraphy styles, the evolution of Arabic calligraphy art, and methods for deriving new alphabets with the aid of modern electronic tools and programs to create new designs based on the fundamentals of good design.

The course aims to train the student on the foundations of Arabic calligraphy design and its various styles (Naskh, Diwani, Kufic, Ruq'ah, etc.) and the characteristics of each style individually, deriving a new alphabet for one or more styles according to design principles.
