Course Description: Components of electrical protection systems, including: objectives, system components, requirements, protection zones, and main and backup protection. Protection measuring transformers (CT, VT & CVT), including: types. Installation. Equivalent circuit. Ratio error. Burden. Accuracy classes.

Objectives of the course :

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Understanding the basic components of an electrical protection system.

* Identify different types of protection system devices, including modern and advanced types.

Designing and configuring protection schemes for electrical power systems.

Course outputs :

* Recognize protection system requirements, protection zones, circuit breakers, protective relays, and instrument transformers.

* Analysis of the performance of key components of electrical protection systems, including measuring transformers, relays, circuit breakers, and various protection schemes such as overcurrent protection, distance protection, and differential protection.

Design a comprehensive and effective protection system for electrical power system components such as distribution feeders, transmission lines, generators, and transformers.
