Principles of Electrical Power Systems

Course Description: The content includes: Components and elements of electrical power systems: generation, transmission, and distribution. Electric power generation: primary and alternative sources. Transmission line conductors. Electrical insulators: types and parameters. Transmission line parameters: series impedance and shunt admittance. Transmission line analysis: short line, medium line, and long line. Power cable parameters: series impedance and shunt admittance. Distribution system analysis: radial systems and ring systems.
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: EE 202
Objectives of the course :

Introduce students to the fundamental components of electrical power systems, their interconnections, and their functions.
Provide students with descriptive computational methods for transmission line parameters.
Prepare students to recognize the different types of electricity generation systems.
* Preparing students to effectively analyze the performance of electric transportation systems.
Introduce students to the fundamentals of electrical power distribution systems.
Introduce students to the different types of electric transportation systems.
Prepare students to identify the advantages and disadvantages of different types of insulators and cables according to their applications.
