Course Description: Three-phase induction machines, including: construction, operating principle, equivalent circuit, performance characteristics, starting of induction motors, and speed control. Single-phase induction motors. Fundamentals of DC machines. DC machines, including: components, classification, performance, motor characteristics, starting of DC motors, and speed control of DC motors.

Prerequisites: EE 330
Objectives of the course :

Upon completion of this course, the student will have learned:

1. Concepts and principles of operation, installation, and control methods for three-phase induction motors, single-phase induction motors, and DC motors.

2. How to determine the performance characteristics of three-phase and single-phase induction motors and DC motors.

3. Traditional and modern methods for starting and speed control of three-phase induction motors, single-phase motors, and DC motors.

4. Different types of single-phase induction motors, their torque/speed characteristics, and their starting methods.

Ability to handle induction motors and DC motors as important drive means in the fields of industry, mining, and transportation.

Course outputs :

* Determining equivalent circuit models, applications, operating principles, and performance specifications for induction motors and DC machines.

Analysis of equivalent circuits, model parameters, performance characteristics, and power flow in induction and DC motors.
