Course Description: Introduction to Semiconductors, including: Crystal lattice, bonding, and energy bands in solids. P-N Junction, including: Junction formation, current-voltage (I-V) characteristics, forward and reverse biasing, and breakdown voltage. Applications of the P-N Junction, including: Rectification, Zener diode, solar cells, and Light Emitting Diode (LED). Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT), including: BJT types and operating mechanism, currents, and current gain. It also includes BJT operating modes and biasing configurations, BJT current equations and the Ebers-Moll model, operating point and bias stability, small-signal models, and BJT operation as an amplifier. Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor (MOSFET), including: MOSFET types and operating theory, channel formation in enhancement-mode MOSFETs, and current-voltage (I-V) characteristics in the linear and saturation operating regions. It also includes MOSFET biasing configurations, small-signal models, and MOSFET operation as an amplifier.

Objectives of the course :

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Acquire basic knowledge of semiconductor material properties and electronic devices, including P-N junction diodes, BJT transistors, and FET transistors.
Applying electronic device characteristics to the operation of basic electronic circuits using diodes and BJT and FET transistors.
* Utilize different techniques for analyzing and designing basic electronic circuits.
