Physical therapy in surgery and burns

Course Description: This course provides students with fundamental knowledge related to skin structure and function, mechanisms of burn injury, types, degrees, and complications. It also covers the stages of wound healing and associated disorders. Furthermore, it focuses on evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, and physical therapy for surgical conditions and burns, including rehabilitation programs and various therapeutic interventions to improve motor function, enhance recovery, and reduce complications.

Objectives of the course :

Learn the basic medical aspects related to burns and surgical conditions.
Linking medical knowledge and physical therapy principles to achieve an accurate physical therapy diagnosis.
Application of various methods and techniques used in physical therapy for burns and surgical conditions.
Design and implement evidence-based therapeutic and rehabilitation plans for each case.

Course outputs :

Understanding the anatomy and functions of the integumentary system and the lymphatic system.
Distinguishing between pathological manifestations and physiological changes, and the clinical characteristics of burns and different surgical conditions.
Identifying physiotherapy procedures and methods used in the prevention and rehabilitation of burns and surgical conditions.
Applying clinical reasoning skills in the assessment and diagnosis of surgical, burn, and tumor cases according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) model.
