Assessment methods using electromagnetism

Course Description: This course is designed to provide students with foundational knowledge and skills in the field of neuromuscular electrophysiological diagnosis through the study of the anatomical and physiological principles of nerve conduction, electromyography, nerve conduction studies, repetitive nerve stimulation techniques, and sensory evoked potentials. The course also focuses on the principles of performing these tests, interpreting their normal and abnormal results, and applying them in the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders and nerve entrapment syndromes. Furthermore, the course enhances analytical thinking and teamwork skills.
Credits: 2
Objectives of the course :

Course Objectives:
1. Enable students to understand the physiological and anatomical foundations necessary for comprehending the strength-duration curve, electromyography, nerve conduction studies, and sensory evoked potentials. .
2. Enable students to efficiently apply electrophysiological diagnostic techniques in the assessment and diagnosis of various neuromuscular disorders.
3. Enable students to efficiently describe and interpret normal and abnormal results of electrodiagnostic tests used in the evaluation of neuromuscular disorders.

Course outputs :

knowledge:
1.1 Describe the anatomical and physiological bases of nerve conduction and electromyography.
1.2 Explanation of the principles and methods used in performing electromyography for various muscles of the body.
1.3 Description of the principles and methods used in conducting motor and sensory nerve conduction studies, repetitive nerve stimulation technique, and peripheral nerve sensory evoked potentials.
1.4 Identifying the locations of nerve compression in the upper and lower extremities and the face, and their diagnostic characteristics.
2.0 Skills:
2.1 Interpretation of electromyography, nerve conduction studies, repetitive nerve stimulation, late responses, and sensory evoked potentials in the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders.
2.2 Differentiating between normal and abnormal results of various electrodiagnostic tests, and correlating them with relevant neuromuscular disorders.
3.0 Values, Independence, and Responsibility
3.1 Demonstrate a spirit of cooperation and teamwork, and commit to professional behavior during practical activities and scientific discussions.
