Therapeutic exercise

Course Description: This course provides the fundamental knowledge and practical skills necessary to describe and apply therapeutic exercises in physical therapy practice. Students will gain proficiency in designing, developing, and modifying evidence-based therapeutic programs aimed at improving mobility, flexibility, strength, endurance, neuromuscular control, balance, and functional performance in various patient populations. The course focuses on clinical reasoning, movement analysis, determining therapeutic dosages, motor control, and the safe application of therapeutic exercise interventions.
Credit hours: 4
Objectives of the course :

1. Explanation of the basic principles, physiological responses, indications, contraindications, and precautions associated with therapeutic exercises.
2. Application of evidence-based therapeutic exercise principles, including therapeutic dosage, progression, modification, and follow-up.
3. Design individualized therapeutic exercise programs to address issues of mobility, flexibility, strength, endurance, motor control, balance, and functional performance.
4. Safely and effectively apply therapeutic exercise techniques using appropriate patient positioning, proper body mechanics, and correct use of devices and equipment.
5. Integrate clinical reasoning and movement analysis when selecting and modifying therapeutic exercise interventions according to the patient's condition and rehabilitation goals.
6. Demonstrating professional behavior, teamwork, and self-learning during practical activities and clinical case-based applications.

Course outputs :

Explain the fundamental principles, physiological responses, indications, contraindications, and precautions related to therapeutic exercises for various patient populations.
Describe the principles of evidence-based therapeutic exercise prescription, including therapeutic dosage, progression, modification, and follow-up.
• Differentiate between various therapeutic exercise methods used to improve range of motion, flexibility, strength, endurance, motor control, balance, and functional performance.
• Applying therapeutic exercise techniques safely and effectively using correct body mechanics, appropriate patient positioning, and proper handling of devices and equipment.
• Design individualized therapeutic exercise programs based on scientific evidence, taking into account the patient's problems, functional limitations, and rehabilitation goals.
• Modify and develop therapeutic exercise programs according to the patient's response, stage of tissue healing, and functional performance level.
• Demonstrate professional behavior, teamwork, and accountability during practical activities and clinical applications.
• Practice self-directed learning and research scientific evidence to support clinical decision-making in therapeutic exercise.
