Course Description: This course includes the basic concepts related to international finance, covering all activities related to the flow of funds between countries, which are monitored in one of the components of the balance of payments. It identifies the structure of the balance of payments, its components, and its importance. It also covers the study of foreign exchange markets and their risks, explaining imbalances in the balance of payments and their causes, and the role of the exchange rate in rebalancing the balance of payments. The course also addresses policies for achieving balance in the balance of payments, explaining the system of exchange controls and referring to the different exchange rate systems. It also presents macroeconomic policies in an open economy and their impact on macroeconomic variables, especially the foreign exchange rate and external balance. It covers traditional approaches to determining the balance of payments and finally, it is very important to note the role of regional and international finance organizations.

Objectives of the course :

This course aims to introduce students to the fundamentals and concepts of the balance of payments and its traditional approaches, balance of payments imbalances and how to adjust them, exchange rate systems and their connection to reality, explanations for the causes of macroeconomic problems in an open economy, economic policy options for addressing external imbalances and balancing them, and familiarity with the main ethical frameworks and cultural diversity in international finance.
