Microeconomic Analysis

Course Description: This course focuses on the study of the basic concepts of microeconomic analysis, through the study of market equilibrium and its stability, and the analysis of the impact of some microeconomic government policies on market equilibrium, such as the case of imposing a price ceiling or floor for goods, or the case of imposing a tax. It also addresses the concept of economic efficiency and how to achieve optimal resource allocation. This course also covers the modern approach to consumer behavior and how to analyze consumer demand through the applications of the substitution effect and income effect, and price, income, and cross elasticities of demand. This course is concerned with studying and analyzing the theories of production and costs in the short and long run, the cost structure of firms, and analyzing the equilibrium of the firm under different market structures, using microeconomic analysis tools descriptively through explanations and various graphs, as well as quantitative measurement tools.

Objectives of the course :

This course aims to provide the student with the basic knowledge, concepts, principles, and theories related to microeconomic analysis and its applications.

Course outputs :

1.1 Recognizes consumer behavior theory according to its basic assumptions and derives the condition for consumer utility maximization.
1.2 Explains the basic concepts and terms related to the fundamental concepts of microeconomic analysis, its fields, and its tools.
1.3 Applies appropriate models for analyzing microeconomic problems and issues, describing and differentiating between suitable measures and policies.
2.1 Communicates effectively in writing in fields related to microeconomic analysis by preparing an individual report.
2.2 Acquires the skill of critical thinking and solving microeconomic problems studied, and proposes alternative solutions using appropriate microeconomic analysis tools and models in scientific and creative ways.
