Oral health practice (expert)

Course description: This course aims to develop the student's ability to make evidence-based decisions in order to deliver efficient and effective oral and dental health care. It focuses on the oral and dental health care plan and the evaluation of its effectiveness in diverse patient populations, including those with systemic diseases. The course primarily seeks to prepare students to adopt a multidisciplinary approach in addressing the oral and dental health needs of patients with moderate to severe periodontitis. It is a progressive continuation of competency-based clinical supervisory applications and advanced periodontology, where non-surgical periodontal debridement skills are enhanced using advanced hand instrumentation, ultrasonic scaling, and local anesthesia.

Objectives of the course :

This course aims primarily to prepare students to adopt a multidisciplinary approach in addressing the oral and dental health needs of patients with moderate to severe periodontitis, in accordance with the six core standards of the ADHA for providing expert-level oral healthcare.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding:

The student will recall the principles of oral health care for patients with moderate to severe periodontitis.

The student will retain the concepts of periodontal management for patients with systemic diseases.

Skills:

The student should demonstrate effective communication skills when interacting with patients, colleagues, and faculty members.

To develop a comprehensive oral health care plan for both regular patients and patients with systemic diseases.

The student performs the clinical procedures for the effective management of periodontitis according to the AAP classification in stages III and IV using ultrasonic techniques and advanced instruments under local anesthesia.
