Community Dental Health (5)

Course Description: This applied course focuses on assessing the oral health needs of the community, particularly marginalized and underserved populations, and delivering necessary programs and services. The course places significant importance on recording complete oral health status using the World Health Organization's Oral Health Survey Basic Form and assessing oral health needs. The course also allows for extensive application of pit and fissure sealant skills. By the end of the course, students will be able to deliver preventive oral and dental health programs, as well as preventive and palliative oral and dental health care for diverse populations in various community settings at a competent level.

Objectives of the course :

Upon completion of the course, the student will be competent in evaluating oral conditions and the needs of diverse populations, and in providing a variety of preventive and therapeutic oral health procedures, particularly for the marginalized and those with special needs, within available field capabilities while maintaining quality standards.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding:

The student will summarize the individual and population risk factors affecting health and disease patterns.

That the student preserves the difference in oral health and its conditions among different groups.

Skills:

Identify the causes of poor oral hygiene among underserved/marginalized populations.

To develop strategies that enhance health-related quality of life for individuals and the community.

The student will justify to patients good dietary practices and their impact on oral health and general health.

To utilize evidence-based decision-making for evaluating emerging technologies and treatment modalities in order to integrate them into oral healthcare plans for patients, with the aim of achieving high-quality and cost-effective care.

The student will clarify and apply acquired skills and effective communication strategies to communicate efficiently with various stakeholders.

The student explains the scientific data used to identify risks facing society.

The student shall provide screening, referral, and education services that enable patients to access healthcare system resources in accordance with ethical standards.
