Community Dental Health (4)

Course Description: Community service was a fundamental component in previous community oral and dental health courses, which included a theoretical and a practical component. This practical course provides students with further community field experience to enhance awareness of diverse, underrepresented, and underserved populations outside the university environment, and to assess their oral health needs. The course also allows for an intermediate level of skills and experience in preventive treatments such as the application of fluoride gel and varnish, scaling, root planing, and others, in settings with limited resources. The correct use of oral hygiene tools and techniques for cleaning teeth is taught and practiced at the individual level in all these programs.
