Course Description: This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts and principles of oral medicine and oral pathosis using a case-based learning approach. The course primarily focuses on oral examination and the recognition of deviations from normality. It also discusses specific common diseases of the oral and maxillofacial region, such as red and white lesions, ulcerative lesions, cysts, potentially malignant disorders (PMDs), viral and fungal infections, and oral cancer, covering their etiologies, pathogenetic mechanisms, clinical characteristics, treatment options, and associated dental care. Furthermore, this course aims to enable students to understand the theories and principles related to dental radiology and the systematic analysis of dental radiographic images. Lectures and clinical training are utilized to prepare students for the use of ionizing radiation in dentistry, adhering to radiation safety and protection principles. The course also emphasizes hands-on training in acquiring, processing, and interpreting intraoral digital radiographs and panoramic images, while complying with radiation safety procedures and infection control protocols.
