Pathophysiology of periapical tissues

Course description: This course aims to provide students with knowledge regarding the pathophysiological changes that occur in the structures and tissues of the periodontium. It also introduces students to the role of dental plaque and its associated factors, as well as the host, in the pathogenesis and progression of periodontal diseases. This course helps the student understand, classify, and differentiate between various periodontal diseases and conditions.

Objectives of the course :

This course aims to enable students to acquire knowledge about the mechanisms of onset and progression of periodontal diseases, including various gum and periodontal diseases and their pathological conditions.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding:

The ability to list the anatomical features of the gingiva

Highlight the role of dental plaque and its associated factors, periodontal pathogens, and host factors in the mechanisms of initiation and progression of periodontal diseases.

The ability to classify periodontal diseases and conditions affecting the supporting tissues.

Description of periodontal and supporting tissue diseases through clinical and radiographic examination.
