Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Diseases (2)

Course Description: This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to understanding advanced aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, such as jaw cysts, sinus problems, temporomandibular joint disorders, and various oral tumors. Acquiring knowledge through this course will contribute to developing diagnostic skills to reach advanced stages of surgery managed by an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon. Pathogenesis, clinical features, differential diagnosis, and treatment of these conditions will be studied. Histopathological manifestations of most diseases will be studied in laboratory sessions to help understand the vital manifestations of oral diseases. Discussion sessions will contribute to the integration of pathology and oral medicine, as well as the development of a diagnostic and treatment system based on understanding the disease.

Prerequisites: DENT 441
Objectives of the course :

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
• Identify the patient's chief complaint and medical history
• Perform a comprehensive intraoral and extraoral examination and a limited physical examination of the patient, including assessment of vital signs and documentation of information.
• Description, operation, and reading of appropriate radiological examinations for the patient
• Linking intra-oral and extra-oral clinical information with the presence of systemic diseases and discussing how these diseases affect general health, treatment plans, and the provision of dental care.

Evaluation and diagnosis of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders
• How to diagnose and manage jaw cysts
• Evaluation and diagnosis of sinus problems
• Interpretation of indications, contraindications, and techniques for treating various oral tumors.
