Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Diseases (1)

Course Description: This course will include a series of lectures on advanced oral and maxillofacial surgery, such as surgical extraction of impacted teeth, pre-prosthetic surgery, diagnostic biopsy, early management of odontogenic infections, trauma, and orthodontic surgery. The goal is to provide students with the understanding and diagnostic ability to reach advanced surgical stages dealt with by oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Theopathology, clinical features, differential diagnosis, and treatment of these conditions will be studied. Histopathological manifestations of most diseases will be studied in laboratory sessions to help understand the pathobiology of oral diseases. Seminars will contribute to the integration of knowledge from pathology and oral medicine, as well as the development of a diagnostic and therapeutic system based on understanding the disease.

Objectives of the course :

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
• Identify the patient's chief complaint and medical history
• Perform a comprehensive intraoral and extraoral examination and a limited physical examination of the patient, including assessment of vital signs and documentation of information.
• Description, operation, and reading of appropriate radiological examinations for the patient
• Linking intra-oral and extra-oral clinical information with the presence of systemic diseases and discussing how these diseases affect general health, treatment plans, and the provision of dental care.
• Evaluating and managing medical emergencies associated with dental practice
• Surgical extraction of teeth

Course outputs :

• How to diagnose and manage impacted teeth in the jaws
• Treatment of localized dental infections
Surgical procedures that precede prosthetics
• Explanation of indications, contraindications, and techniques for treating complex cases requiring surgical intervention
• Identify the various pathological changes of the salivary glands and explain the different treatment methods.
