Course Description: Dental Ethics provides an introduction to the importance of the physician-patient relationship and ethical decision-making. Topics include consent, assessing patient competence, truth-telling, confidentiality, and end-of-life decisions, examined in various settings such as intensive care, pediatrics, geriatrics, and rehabilitation medicine. Dental ethics are important in dental practice and are key to providing good health services in diagnosing and treating diseases. Patients must have confidence in their dentist and feel they can trust him or her. Building a good relationship with patients is very important to most dentists. The physician-patient relationship is considered a fundamental pillar of medical ethics. Most dental schools and colleges teach about this relationship even before students begin clinical work. To maintain patient relationships, respecting patient confidentiality is essential.
