Foundations of Dental Practice

Course Description: This course provides the preliminary skills and knowledge necessary to work safely and effectively in a dental clinic with materials, patients, and staff. Presented as a fundamental introduction to dental practice, it includes a detailed study of dental equipment, its functions, and care. It also covers various dental procedures and techniques in dental assisting, including the practice of ergonomic principles in each procedure. The course also equips students with knowledge related to ethical aspects concerning patients and colleagues, and contributes to the development of students' time management skills.

Objectives of the course :

This course aims to introduce students to the fundamental principles of infection prevention and control procedures in dental healthcare settings, in addition to the fundamental principles of dental practice.

Knowledge and understanding:

 

List the different essential Sunni terminologies and define infection control and explain policies and procedures for limiting the spread of infection.

Dental Clinic Design Description, Purpose of Each Section, and Objectives for Establishing an Infection Control Program.

Explanation of basic concepts of chairside assistance, patient preparation for treatment, and a summary of infection control program management methods.

Assessing the importance of applying ethical concepts in dentistry and distinguishing between standard and general precautions.

Skills:

Demonstrate essential interpersonal communication skills required in dental practice.

Evaluating infection control programs in dental settings and demonstrating professional skills for effective communication in dental practice, and evaluating infectious diseases associated with dentistry.
