Cell structure and function

Course Description: This program is specifically designed to ensure that the dental student has acquired sound integrated knowledge in the different parts of cell biology, biochemistry and general physiology and histology. Some topics in the mentioned disciplines are covered to a lesser extent than others to suit the needs of the dental student.

Objectives of the course :

 

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
- Use of common dental anatomical terms
- Recognize and identify the anatomical structure of the head and neck
- Gain detailed knowledge of the shape of each tooth in the primary and permanent dentition
- Estimating the relationship between tooth shape and clinical dentistry
- Understands the relationships of fixed dentures in ideal dentures

Course outputs :

 

• Identifying the anatomical structure of the temporomandibular joint and its relationship to function
- Drawing of the mandibular rim movements as seen in the sagittal, frontal and horizontal planes
- Describe the sliding tooth friction in optimal dentures in the following types of dentures: Functional Anterior Group, Guiding Canine, Functional Posterior Group, and Bi-Balanced
- Knowledge of salivary function, anatomy, development, histologic features, salivary gland composition, clinical considerations, age changes, and salivary gland diseases
