Research Seminar on Mathematics Curriculum and Instruction

Course Description: Recognizing recent trends in research and studies of mathematics curriculum and teaching methods at the Arab and international levels. It also covers the criteria for good educational research, and the study, analysis, and critique of some research and studies in the field of mathematics curriculum and teaching methods. Furthermore, it covers the components of a research plan in the field of curriculum and teaching methods. It also covers the methodology for building different types of data collection tools (interviews – observations – tests, etc.).

Objectives of the course :

Upon completing this course, the student will be able to:
Some modern trends in mathematics curriculum and teaching methods research and studies are identified at both the Arab and global levels.
2. Identifies criteria for good educational research.
3. Critiques some research and studies in the field of mathematics curricula and teaching methods.
4- Lists the components of a research plan in the field of mathematics curricula and teaching methods.
5. Acquires skill in preparing a research plan in the field of mathematics curricula and teaching methods.
The methodology for constructing different types of data collection tools in educational research is recognized.
7. Ability to build data collection tools (interview – observation – test) in the field of mathematics curricula and teaching methods.

Course outputs :

1- Acquires the skill of preparing a research plan in the field of mathematics curricula and teaching methods.
2. Is capable of building the interview tool as a data collection tool in the field of mathematics curricula and teaching methods.
3. Ability to standardize the interview tool.
4- Capable of constructing a note card as a data collection tool in the field of mathematics curricula and teaching methods, and calculating its validity and reliability.
5. Able to construct a math test.
6. The ability to standardize a math test (calculating validity, reliability, and difficulty and discrimination indices).
7- Gains the ability to critique research on mathematics teaching and learning.
Able to search Arabic and foreign databases.
