Obstetrics and Gynecology

Course Description: This course covers the principles of gynecology and obstetrics and is structured around general and specific behavioral objectives. It integrates basic sciences with clinical sciences and the skills required for diagnosis and treatment. The content addresses emergencies and routine cases, and it outlines the objectives that students should achieve, varying in importance for the general practitioner. This variation is indicated by the priority level specified in parentheses at the end of each objective. The content is divided into basic clinical skills, early pregnancy problems, systemic diseases accompanying pregnancy, late pregnancy problems, the process of labor, obstetric emergencies, gynecological aspects related to menstrual irregularities, menstrual pain, bleeding, pelvic infections, uterine prolapse, urinary incontinence, rectovaginal fistula, vesicovaginal fistula, sexually transmitted genital tract diseases and cancers, and family planning and contraception.

Objectives of the course :

1. Identifying high-risk pregnancies, childbirth, and gynecological diseases, their magnitude, and various causes, with a focus on preventable, avoidable, and treatable causes.
2. Description of the principle of managing high-risk pregnancies, childbirth, and gynecological diseases.
Critically evaluate and integrate medical knowledge from relevant sources to make evidence-based decisions regarding individual and community health.
4. Interpretation of gestational age for pregnant women by taking a medical history, focused clinical examination, and analyses for the temporary diagnosis of high-risk pregnancy, childbirth, and gynecological diseases.
5. Periodic rotation of leadership positions within the group.
6. Develop a treatment plan for high-risk pregnancies, childbirth, and gynecological diseases.
7. Optimal use of advanced communication and information resources to obtain up-to-date knowledge and thus improve teaching and patient care (e.g., journals, CDs, and the internet).
8. Contribute to and facilitate constructive problem-solving in group or team situations, whether in a leadership role or as a group member.
9. Take responsibility for their own learning and be able to identify and use means of finding new information or analytical techniques needed to complete tasks.

1. Identify various types of obstetrics and gynecology diseases and describe their mechanisms of occurrence and clinical manifestations.
2. Describe the principles of managing common and critical cases in obstetrics and gynecology.
3. Perform a thorough and comprehensive physical examination, safely, relevant to common gynecological and obstetric conditions, to identify signs of disease.
4. Safely utilize appropriate diagnostic and interventional procedures in obstetrics and gynecology.
5. Integrate data obtained from patient interviews with medical knowledge to develop an evidence-based management plan for obstetrics and gynecology cases, including appropriate examinations, treatment lines, and preventive measures.
6. Demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking and creativity in managing new cases in obstetrics and gynecology.
7. Effectively communicate with patients, considering behavioral, social, and cultural contexts, to take medical histories, explain diagnoses, management plans, and provide health education.
