Family medicine

Course Description: This course emphasizes that the concept of family medicine is a comprehensive and continuous healthcare practice for the individual and family, through optimal, appropriate, and advanced utilization. It focuses on health care in its comprehensive sense, which means more than just being free from illness. Family Medicine Essentials: Continuous Health Care: Coordination with relevant bodies that contribute to raising the health level, ensuring a broader healthcare system to meet patient needs. Holistic View in Healthcare Delivery: Through understanding organic, psychological, and social interactions, and their reciprocal impact and overall effect on the individual, family, and community. Community Health Care: Healthcare services in family medicine are not limited to the individual and family but also include the community through understanding the impact of social and cultural environments, and the timely and appropriate detection, monitoring, follow-up, and reporting of epidemic diseases. Family Medicine Practice: The family medicine course provides training on the concept of family medicine and dealing with common health problems that a family physician may encounter.

Objectives of the course :

1. Explain the fundamental principles and philosophy of family practice.
2. Describe the characteristics of Family Medicine and Internal Medicine.
3. Application of comprehensive and integrated healthcare within the framework of continuity of care and supportive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative care through an organized team approach.
4. Providing a rationale for primary care-trained family physicians to improve healthcare.
5. Explain the extended role played by family physicians in providing care for individuals, families, and communities.

Course outputs :

1. Identifying various types of family medicine diseases and describing their mechanisms of occurrence and clinical manifestations.
2. Description of principles for family medicine case management.
3. Perform a thorough, comprehensive, and safe physical examination relevant to family medicine conditions to identify signs of illness.
4. Safely utilize appropriate diagnostic and interventional procedures in family medicine cases.
5. Integrate data from patient interviews with medical knowledge to develop an evidence-based management plan for family medicine cases, including appropriate investigations, treatment pathways, and preventive measures.
6. Demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking and creativity in managing new family medicine cases.
