Public Health Parasitology

Course Description: This course is designed to introduce concepts, methods, and applications of parasitology in the health sciences. The course discusses the role of parasites in the environment and human diseases. Topics include host-parasite relationships, protozoan diseases, cestodes, nematodes, trematodes, as well as the diseases caused by these parasites and their treatment methods. The practical part of the course provides hands-on experiments that enrich, clarify, expand, and reinforce the key concepts discussed in theoretical lectures.
Credit hours: 3
Objectives of the course :

Assisting students in acquiring knowledge related to the biological, epidemiological, and environmental aspects of human disease-causing parasites.
2. Developing students' awareness of the mechanism of this parasitic infection, its clinical symptoms, and its complications.
Assisting students in choosing diagnostic methods to arrive at the correct final diagnosis.
4. Assist students in understanding the outlines of treatment, best selected medications, and prevention and control of parasitic diseases.
5. Enhance students' knowledge of endemic parasitic problems and their impact on health.

Course outputs :

• Explain the general principles and concepts of parasitology in the field of public health, and introduce students to the structure of parasites.
• Identifying available methods for diagnosing and combating parasitic diseases within the community.
• Application of research methodologies and analytical techniques to study various parasitic diseases of public health importance.
Utilize appropriate modern technology to identify students' motor skills and use them to conduct basic experiments and explain data, and handle chemicals and tools carefully and safely.
