Public Health Microbiology

Course Description: The course covers a variety of microbial agents that can impact public health and ecosystems. It is designed to detail microbial hazards present in food, water, soil, and air. Molecular biology techniques, current regulatory approaches for investigating pathogens, and surrogate indicators will also be addressed. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of microorganisms of public health significance, mechanisms of disease, as well as sterilization and disinfection techniques.

Objectives of the course :

The course aims to introduce a variety of microbial factors that can impact public health. It will also explore the different methods available for combating microbes to mitigate these risks.

Course outputs :

• Explain the principles and concepts of general microbiology for public health, and introduce students to the structure of microorganisms.
• Identifying available methods for detecting and combating bacterial, viral, and fungal diseases within the community.
• Application of research methodologies and analytical techniques to study various bacterial, fungal, and viral diseases of public health importance.
• Use appropriate modern technology to identify their motor skills and use them to conduct basic experiments and explain data, and handle chemicals and tools with care and safety.
