Disease Concepts for Nursing

Course Description: This course aims to explore the anticipated role of a graduating nurse in meeting the health needs of healthy individuals, patients, and their families. This will be achieved by providing information on pathological aspects, diseases caused by microorganisms, biochemistry, and other sciences related to clinical diagnosis and laboratory tests concerning the human body's organs and systems. The course also covers the fundamentals of treating various infections and communicable diseases, along with a simplified overview of oncological diseases.

Credit hours: 4

Objectives of the course :

1. Understanding and explaining the general basic concepts of pathology related to cell injury, infection, inflammation, circulatory disorders, diseases caused by thrombosis and shock, and tumors.
2. Linking disease signs and symptoms to the presence of the disease.
3. Explain the basic principles of microbiology, virology, and parasitology.
4. Understanding the fundamental concepts of drugs, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and anti-cancer drugs.
5. Understanding the fundamental concepts of biochemistry and diseases, particularly in relation to cancer.
6. Explain the impact of infectious diseases and cancer on the individual, family, and society.
7. Description of the main groups of microbes and explanation of the nature of their interactions in the human body. .
8. Discussion of aspects of microbiology and infection, including microorganisms that cause transmission and infectious diseases, hospital-acquired infections, and principles and methods of infection control and prevention.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

Explains concepts and principles of diseases across different age stages.
2. The relationship between chronic inflammation and the inflammation pattern is described.
Explains the reciprocal relationship between circulatory disorders and viral infections and the mechanism of their balance.
Explains cell injury, tissue healing and repair, and tumors.
Applies knowledge of various disease concepts and principles within the context of infection control and safety standards.
6. Explains circulatory disorders of chronic diseases, pathophysiology of blood disorders.
7. The immune system description, immune response to bacteria, and hypersensitivity mechanisms.
8. Recognizes the basic principles of drugs, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and anti-cancer drugs.
Explains microorganisms and microbial agents that cause transmission of infections and infectious diseases, hospital-acquired infections, and the principles and methods of infection control and prevention.
