Course Description: BPH 438 is a capstone project course. In this project, students undertake a project in the field of public health. The capstone project process provides the necessary framework that enables the student to take responsibility for the development, execution, and successful completion of their project. This course provides students with an opportunity to enhance their understanding of scientific research through a critical exploration of research methodologies, ethics, and approaches. The course introduces students to the ethical principles of research and its challenges, the research process, and quantitative and qualitative methods. Students will learn how to critically review literature relevant to their field, and identify how to utilize research findings to understand their environment (work, community, local, and global) and improve the health status of the community. This course offers students the following: • An opportunity to complete a research project in the field of public health. • Providing the necessary framework, through appropriate mentorship, that enables the student to take responsibility for the development, execution, and successful completion of their project. • Gaining experience in data analysis, report writing, and presenting findings in both written and oral formats.
