Course Description: This course will allow students to explore the issues and factors affecting the health, changing social roles, and quality of life of older adults in diverse settings. The course encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, service-learning, and evidence-based practice, with a focus on diversity, multicultural needs, health status, and the promotion of health and well-being for older adults.

Prerequisites: BPH 212
Objectives of the course :

Managing and addressing common health issues in older adults.
2. Review of epidemiological aspects of the elderly.
3. Identify the basic principles of healthy aging.
4. Applying principles of geriatric assessment, rehabilitation, and long-term care in a patient care setting.
5. Describe the physical, social, and behavioral characteristics of older adults who regularly take their medications.
6. Taking health-protective measures for the elderly.

Course outputs :

• Understanding and explaining the principles and concepts of geriatric health, the challenges related to aging, and geriatric syndromes.
• Summarize, interpret, and evaluate some social and economic characteristics of the elderly in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
