Course Description: This course aims to introduce students to the general concepts and principles of maternal and child health and enable them to develop and implement maternal and child health programs.
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: BPH 212
Objectives of the course :

1. Describe the essential elements and concepts of maternal and child health, identify and assess maternal and child health problems, and find solutions for them.
2. Define and describe the components of maternal and child health care, particularly women's health and child health.
3. Description of the objectives and components of maternal health (antenatal care, intrapartum care, postpartum care, family planning, and family health counseling).
4. Identifying normal child growth and development, physical and developmental assessment, screening, immunizations, and challenges in child care.
5. Identifying the nutritional needs of children, including breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and infant and young child feeding practices.

Course outputs :

• Students will gain the necessary knowledge to: Define the basic concepts of maternal and child health. Identify the nutritional needs of a child, the importance of breastfeeding, its components, and ways to promote it.
• The ability to understand the utmost importance of maternal and child health within the family system and society; the ability to understand the importance of breastfeeding and how to determine a child's nutritional needs; and the ability to recognize normal child psychological development and preventive measures for maternal health problems.
