Medical anthropology

Course Description: This course examines the relationship between culture, society, health, and illness, by reviewing key concepts in medical anthropology and their applications in public health. The course focuses on understanding how cultural beliefs, social structures, and environmental contexts influence individual and community perceptions of health and illness, as well as their health behaviors and responses to health services. It equips students with analytical tools to design culturally sensitive health interventions and effectively engage with diverse populations.
Credit hours: 3
Objectives of the course :

1. Introducing the student to the theoretical and methodological foundations of medical anthropology and its connection to public health.
2. Developing the ability to analyze the cultural and social dimensions influencing health and illness.
3. Developing students' cultural competence for engaging with diverse communities in real-world settings.
4. Linking anthropological knowledge with practical applications in public health programs.
5. Promoting critical thinking about health justice issues and social disparities in health.
