Course Description: Environmental health is a branch of public health that deals with all aspects of the natural and built environment that affect human health. Environmental health focuses on natural and built environments in service of human health. Key sub-disciplines of environmental health include: Environmental science, environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, and epidemiology.
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: BPH 212
Objectives of the course :

1. Definition of environmental health concepts.
2. Describe the origin and evolution of environmental health throughout history, and explain its connections.
3. Explanation of the theory of assessment, correction, monitoring, and prevention of environmental factors that may negatively affect health.
4. Critically analyze current environmental health issues globally, in the Eastern Mediterranean region, and in Saudi Arabia.
5. Use some working methodologies in environmental science.
6. Critically evaluate the Millennium Development Goals related to environmental sustainability and global partnerships for development.
7. Discussion of globalization, environmental health challenges, and social change.

Course outputs :

Provide students with basic information on environmental protection measures and global environmental health issues.
• The ability to apply environmental health protection measures to prevent diseases, promote health, and raise the level of health in society as a whole, lead environmental health programs, and identify valid and reliable research strategies and methods for dealing with environmental health problems.
• Ability to write reports, use e-journals, databases, and websites related to health and environmental health, and use PowerPoint.
