Advanced microbial genetics

Course Description: This course covers the fundamentals of microbial genetics, including the Central Dogma and the mechanisms of DNA replication, transcription, and translation in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, as well as the structure of genomes. It also covers extrachromosomal elements such as plasmids and phages, gene expression regulation (operons), mutations and DNA repair, genetic recombination, in addition to modern applications like genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
Credit hours: 3
Objectives of the course :

Enable students to understand and analyze the molecular basis of microbial genetics and apply it in scientific research and biotechnological applications.

1.1 Explains the concept of the central dogma and the relationship between the genome and proteome.
1.2 Explains the structure and organization of DNA and RNA in prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
