Algae

Course Description: -A comprehensive introduction to the definition of algae, their habitats and living environment, their shapes and sizes, cellular structure, photosynthetic pigments and colors, different methods of reproduction and life cycle patterns. -The bases adopted for the classification of algae with the adoption of one of the well-known classifications to teach the different sections of these organisms according to the evolutionary line from the least sophisticated to the most sophisticated (sections of cyan, golden algae with their different rows, euglenia, pyruvate, cryptophyte, green, brown and red) with examples of their genera to show the difference in all previous characteristics and the relationship of the evolution of each of them from the other). -Study the economic and environmental importance of algae and their relationship with other living organisms and the extent of their impact on public life by directing to the applied aspects of algae in various fields, ancient and modern, while shedding light on the latest scientific findings in this direction. Description of the course contents: -Using the taxonomic system adopted in the theoretical study, examples of different genera of algae are taught by following the evolutionary line to classify them through the presentation of slides or dried, preserved or live specimens of these genera to study their form and phenotypic characteristics; with training students to use the taxonomic keys in a correct scientific manner and the most important phenotypic characteristics of each section and genus. -Introduce the methods of collecting algae samples from various environments (freshwater, saltwater, wet soil and other environments), familiarize them with the techniques used in this regard and help them identify them using taxonomic keys. .
