Flora and Founa Saudi Arabia

Course Description: This course covers the study of flora and fauna in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It begins with an introduction to the history of vegetation in the Kingdom, and the geographical location of the Arabian Peninsula and its importance in determining plant regions. It also includes the study of different plant regions according to environmental conditions, and the types of environments and vegetation with descriptions of their characteristics. The course addresses plants in different areas such as the south and north of the western part, plants on mountain slopes, wadis, and drainage systems, in addition to plants of high mountains, the western coastal plain, marine coastal plants, and plants of the central and eastern parts of the Kingdom and the Empty Quarter. It also includes a historical review of the evolution of animal life in the Kingdom, identifying the diversity and classification of animals, as well as studying the morphological and physiological adaptations of desert animals, including mammals, reptiles, and some insects.

Objectives of the course :

The course aims to enable students to:

 

Identification of plant elements and components of different geographical regions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and distinguishing between vegetation cover areas to identify wild plant species, genera, and families.
Explanation of morphological and physiological adaptations of desert animals, especially mammals.
Distinguishing between types of environments and vegetation and describing the characteristics of each.
Investigating different environments and vegetation cover using specialized scientific references.
Comparing plants in different environments such as mountain slopes and valleys.
Analysis of plant and animal diversity and their classification through collecting wild plant specimens, identifying and scientifically naming them, and preparing a herbarium.
Evaluation of flora and fauna in the Qassim region through scientific references and the collection and study of plant samples.
