Insecticidal products

Course Description: This course covers the study of insect products of economic importance, with a focus on honeybees and silkworms as key models. This includes studying the structure and behavior of honeybee colonies, methods of their management and queen rearing, and mechanisms of communication, swarming, and control methods. The course also covers the production of beeswax and methods of bee feeding, in addition to studying silkworm breeds and commercial silk production. It also addresses the properties, composition, and uses of honey, methods of detecting its adulteration, as well as the study of other products such as royal jelly, bee venom, and propolis. The course focuses on the practical applications of these products, their economic importance, and the problems associated with their production and management methods.
Credit hours: 3
Objectives of the course :

The course aims to enable students to:

Explanation of the basic concepts of insect products, their economic importance, and their relationship with humans.
Distinguishing between beneficial and harmful insects and identifying their role in agricultural systems.
Identifying the most important insect products, their characteristics, and their various uses.
Analysis of insect product production systems, such as honey and silk, and the factors affecting them.
Applying scientific principles to beekeeping and silkworm farming and managing their production.
Assessing the quality of insect products and methods for detecting fraud or contamination.
Applying scientific knowledge to address problems related to the production of economically important insects.
