Course Description: The Public Health in Emergencies course is designed to equip undergraduate students in the Public Health program with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to understand and effectively respond to public health challenges during emergencies. This course provides a comprehensive overview of the principles, strategies, and interventions required to mitigate the impact of emergencies on population health and enhance resilience. Through a blend of theoretical frameworks, case studies, interactive discussions, and practical exercises, students will explore various aspects of public health in emergency settings. The course will cover topics such as disaster management, emergency preparedness, response coordination, risk assessment, communication strategies, and ethical considerations in emergencies.

Objectives of the course :

1. Understand the concepts, principles, and frameworks of public health in emergencies.
2. Assess risks, vulnerabilities, and capacities in emergency contexts to make evidence-based decisions.
3. Knowing how to effectively coordinate and collaborate with various stakeholders and sectors involved in emergency response.
4. Knowing how to carry out disease outbreak surveillance and investigation, and public health interventions during emergencies.
5. Knowing how to effectively communicate and disseminate information to the public, media, and key stakeholders during emergencies.
6. Analyze the ethical considerations and dilemmas that arise in public health emergencies and apply ethical frameworks to address them.
7. Knowing how to evaluate the effectiveness of public health responses in emergencies and contribute to recovery efforts after the emergency ends.
