Course Description: 1. General Course Description: This course provides students with a comprehensive overview of the origins of linguistics from the Middle Ages in Europe to the 21st century, focusing on major historical milestones. The course also discusses linguistic schools in chronological order, explaining their role in understanding the nature of human language. It highlights how the theories of some schools contribute to the understanding, analysis, and criticism of literary texts by engaging with new cognitive theories related to discourse and text. Finally, the course briefly sheds light on the relationship between linguistics and other sciences and its impact on the emergence of its psychological, social, cognitive, and computational branches, and the subsequent effect on the development of applied linguistics and its various subfields.
