Animal genetics and breeding

Course Description: This course aims to provide students with basic knowledge in animal genetics and its applications in animal breeding and improvement. It includes studying the structure and function of genetic material, gene expression, chromosomal abnormalities, in addition to concepts of molecular genetics, genetic and environmental variation, and genetic equilibrium in animal populations. The course also covers mating systems, heritability, and methods of animal selection and genetic improvement.
Credit hours: 4
Prerequisites: ZOOL101
Objectives of the course :

1- Imparting fundamental concepts in animal genetics to students.
2- Understand the structure and function of genetic material and gene expression.
3- Identifying the mechanisms of hereditary trait and disease transmission.
